What Fidelity Digital Assets is

Fidelity Digital Assets provides custody and trading services for digital assets aimed at institutional clients, along with a Fidelity Crypto offering for U.S. individual investors. The custody platform stores and transfers digital assets using physical, cyber, and operational controls, and clients can execute trades across multiple liquidity venues from a single platform without moving assets out of cold storage. Custody and trading services are provided through Fidelity Digital Assets, National Association, a national trust bank, with a separate UK entity registered with the Financial Conduct Authority.

The company also offers a stablecoin, the Fidelity Digital Dollar (FIDD), pegged 1:1 to the U.S. dollar and redeemable at $1 per unit by customers of Fidelity Digital Assets, National Association, subject to account eligibility. Fidelity Digital Assets originated from Fidelity Investments' research into Bitcoin and blockchain technology and began offering client services in 2019, later expanding to support additional Fidelity Investments offerings including collateral accounts and solutions for wealth managers.
