What MetaMask is

MetaMask is a software wallet that lets customers buy, sell, and swap tokens such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana across multiple networks. It also supports leveraged trading of perpetual contracts powered by Hyperliquid, trading of tokenized stocks, funds, and commodities, and participation in prediction markets tied to real-world events, all accessed through the browser or mobile app.

The wallet includes a Money Account for holding MetaMask USD, sending and receiving money globally, and spending through the MetaMask Card. Customers can also manage API keys and endpoints for building on-chain applications. The company states it has processed billions of transactions since 2016 and offers 24/7 customer support in 134 languages.

  • Approval requests often do not show what you are giving away
  • Built-in swaps add a fee of 0.875%
  • By default it connects through Infura, which sees your IP address and wallet addresses
  • Fake extensions and "support" accounts are everywhere
