XMRMatters

Checked — see our note They hold the keys Founded 2026

XMRMatters is a peer-to-peer marketplace for trading Monero, with the platform acting as escrow agent and dispute referee. Sellers lock XMR, buyers send fiat directly to the seller by whatever method the offer names, and the platform releases the locked balance once payment is confirmed or a dispute is decided.

The mechanism worth understanding before using it is where the coins sit. Each account gets a Monero subaddress inside a single platform wallet, and balances are tracked in the operator's own ledger. Escrow is a lock on a row in that ledger rather than a multisig output on the Monero chain. Matching is peer to peer; possession is not. For the whole time a trade is open — and for as long as a balance sits unwithdrawn — the operator can move the funds and the user cannot prevent it.

No identity documents are collected for ordinary use, which is the draw. Set against that: the operator is unincorporated, names no jurisdiction, and the terms were last updated in June 2026.

Good for

  • No identity documents for ordinary account use
  • Built specifically for Monero rather than bolted on to a multi-coin exchange
  • Dispute process is written down, with evidence and an appeal condition
  • Withdrawal rules are specific about confirmations, networks and fee tiers

Watch out for

  • The platform holds your XMR. Escrow is a balance lock in the operator's database, not on-chain multisig — recovery is their process, not yours.
  • Trade chat is not end-to-end encrypted. Their terms say so plainly and tell you to use PGP yourself for anything sensitive; admins can read messages and attachments during a dispute.
  • Records are kept, some indefinitely. Their privacy notice lists admin audit logs and earnings records as retained without a stated limit.
  • No insurance. Their terms provide the service "as-is" without warranties and cap liability at the value of the transaction involved.
  • The operator is unincorporated and no jurisdiction is named. Governing law is "the jurisdiction where XMRMatters operates", which the terms never state.
  • Launched 2026, so there is no track record to weigh yet.
Our note

Listed, not endorsed, and deliberately not Verified. The submission asked us to repeat three claims — end-to-end encrypted, no logs, and insured — and we check those word by word before repeating them. Their own terms contradict the first two and say nothing at all about the third, so none of the three appear on this page. Custody was disclosed accurately, which is why this is a listing rather than a decline. What is written above comes from their published terms; read them yourself before sending anyone money.
