What Anvil is

Anvil is a system of Ethereum-based smart contracts that manages collateral and issues fully secured credit. Its core instrument is a letter of credit (LOC), described as analogous to a paper bank cheque drawing on verified funds — an economic guarantee of payment backed by locked collateral rather than a counterparty's promise.

The protocol is built to make asset backing verifiable and trustless, reducing the counterparty risk that comes from taking someone's word for it. LOCs generated by Anvil are meant to function as a building block for other applications: securing online or in-store payments, backing instant deposits on centralized exchanges for trading or liquidity provision, and facilitating cross-platform or layer-2 asset transfers where a deposit or withdrawal needs to be backed by proof of collateral rather than trust in the platform moving it.

Anvil is a single-chain protocol, deployed on Ethereum, and is classified as a DeFi project within the Ethereum ecosystem. The source material describes what LOCs are designed to do — secure payments, exchange deposits, bridging — but does not establish how widely any of these use cases have actually been adopted, by which platforms, or at what scale. There is no information here on issuance volume, collateral currently locked, audit history, or which exchanges or L2s, if any, have integrated Anvil LOCs in practice. As with any collateral-based credit system, the guarantee an LOC provides is only as sound as the collateral behind it and the contract logic enforcing it; the source does not detail collateral types, liquidation mechanics, or failure modes.

GoPlus reading, 10 October Blocking addresses: none · Pausing transfers: none · GoPlus

On Ethereum, Base and BNB Chain, GoPlus's analysis of each contract is read weekly: whether it has a function to block addresses or pause transfers, and whether an owner holds it. That is GoPlus's reading, not ours. Where a token exists on several chains, one copy's settings say nothing about the original coin.

Always verify a contract address against the project's own site before sending anything. Addresses are shown as published by CoinGecko, not as an endorsement — and identical-looking tokens on other chains are the most common way people lose money here.

The exit-friction index

Once a month we publish what a $100,000 exit really costs across every token we can measure. Leave an address and this month’s figure arrives straight away, and we will write again when the next index publishes. Nothing else, and never to anyone else.
