What Beefy is
Beefy (BIFI) is described in its own documentation as the native governance and revenue-share token of Beefy Finance, a decentralized finance yield optimizer. BIFI holders are entitled to a share of platform profits and to vote on platform proposals. The source does not name a founding team or a launch date.
Beefy Finance runs vaults — smart contracts that automatically farm and reinvest rewards from liquidity pools, automated market makers, and other yield-generating positions across supported blockchains, aiming to compound returns without manual intervention. Funds in a vault are not locked; users can withdraw at any time, and Beefy does not take custody of deposited assets. Revenue comes from a performance fee built into each vault's displayed yield, typically 4.5% of harvested rewards: 3% goes to BIFI stakers, 0.5% to a treasury, 0.5% to the strategist who built the vault, and 0.5% to whoever triggers the harvest. Vaults also carry a deposit or withdrawal fee of 0.1% or less, shared among stakers in that vault, separate from ordinary network transaction fees. BIFI's total supply is fixed at 80,000 tokens, with no further issuance described.
BIFI is a protocol-revenue token and a governance token, not an equity stake, a stablecoin, or an index of DeFi activity generally — it accrues value only from the fee flows described above, which depend on vault usage continuing. CoinGecko classifies it under DeFi, yield farming, yield aggregation, Ethereum ecosystem, and governance; it is currently tracked as deployed on a single chain, Ethereum, which is narrower than the "every blockchain" vault footprint the source describes, and that gap is worth checking before assuming cross-chain exposure. Fixed supply limits issuance but says nothing about how actively BIFI is staked, traded, or governed at any given time — those are separate, time-stamped measurements shown elsewhere on this page, not properties of the token itself.
Where BIFI lives
On Ethereum, Base and BNB Chain, GoPlus's analysis of each contract is read weekly: whether it has a function to block addresses or pause transfers, and whether an owner holds it. That is GoPlus's reading, not ours. Where a token exists on several chains, one copy's settings say nothing about the original coin.
Always verify a contract address against the project's own site before sending anything. Addresses are shown as published by CoinGecko, not as an endorsement — and identical-looking tokens on other chains are the most common way people lose money here.
