What Umia is
Umia describes itself as an onchain venture protocol: founders apply to launch a token through it, raise funds in an open auction, and continue building while tokenholders govern the project's treasury through decision markets. Umia was the first project launched on its own platform, operating under the same rules that apply to every project that launches after it. The source does not name a founding team or a launch date beyond this self-reference.
Each project under Umia gets its own legal entity holding its IP, team and treasury. Raised funds sit in an onchain treasury contract the founding team cannot spend unilaterally; the team instead draws a monthly allowance fixed at formation, with spending beyond that allowance — large one-off costs, new commitments, compensation changes — routed to a decision market that prices what each option would do for the project. Fundraising itself runs through a Tailored Auction, a configuration of Uniswap's Continuous Clearing Auction with refundable bids; part of the proceeds seeds a Uniswap v4 pool owned by the treasury. Community allocations can be gated by zkTLS proofs generated in-browser via the Umia Extension, verifying eligibility without exposing identity or account data. UMIA, an ERC-20 on Base, lets holders direct treasury decisions, protocol configuration and which applying projects join the Community Track.
UMIA is a governance token: its stated function is directing treasury and protocol decisions, not entitling holders to revenue or profit share, and nothing in the source describes a fee-capture or buyback mechanism. It is deployed on a single chain, Base, so its utility is bound to that network's availability and conditions. Decision markets and the allowance-and-treasury structure are mechanisms describable in principle but unproven at scale beyond the protocol's own token, since Umia was its own first launch. CoinGecko's classification spans several tags — launchpad, zero-knowledge, governance, smart contract platform — which reflects breadth of description rather than a single settled use case.
Where UMIA lives
On Ethereum, Base and BNB Chain, GoPlus's analysis of each contract is read weekly: whether it has a function to block addresses or pause transfers, and whether an owner holds it. That is GoPlus's reading, not ours. Where a token exists on several chains, one copy's settings say nothing about the original coin.
Always verify a contract address against the project's own site before sending anything. Addresses are shown as published by CoinGecko, not as an endorsement — and identical-looking tokens on other chains are the most common way people lose money here.
