What is the crypto Fear and Greed Index?

The crypto Fear and Greed Index is a daily score from 0 to 100 meant to summarise market mood, where 0 means extreme fear and 100 extreme greed. The most cited version is published by Alternative.me and blends several market and social signals into one number.

What it means for you

It measures mood, not value. A high or low score describes how people feel about prices right now and is not a forecast. Different publishers use different inputs, so two indexes with the same name can disagree.

How it works

Alternative.me says it analyses emotions and sentiment from several sources each day and condenses them into one number for Bitcoin and other large cryptocurrencies. Its inputs are volatility (25%), market momentum and volume (25%), social media (15%), surveys (15%), Bitcoin dominance (10%) and search trends (10%). Zero means extreme fear and 100 extreme greed.
