How do you swap tokens on Uniswap?
On the Uniswap web app you connect your own wallet, choose the token to swap and the token to receive, enter an amount and confirm. The first time you swap a token, your wallet also asks you to approve it, which costs a network fee.
What it means for you
You confirm every step in your own wallet, and each approval lets a contract spend that token. Search tokens by contract address rather than by name, since copies with the same name exist, and keep some of the network's coin to pay fees.
How it works
Uniswap Labs' guide: open the web app and connect a wallet, select the token you are swapping and the one you want, searching by name or contract address, then enter an amount or choose Max. Select Swap, review and Confirm Swap. The first time you swap a token you approve spending it in your wallet, which needs a network fee; you then sign a message, which does not, and confirm the swap, which does. The swap is pending until the blockchain confirms it and can be viewed on a block explorer.
