How do you fix a token not showing in your wallet?

A wallet only lists the tokens it detects or that you add. If a token you received is missing, it is usually still on the chain: the wallet is on a different network, or it does not detect that token and you have to add it by its contract address.

What it means for you

Check the network first, then add the token by its contract address from the project's own site or a block explorer. A token that appears unasked in your wallet can be a scam lure, and its name or a website written into it is not a reason to interact with it.

How it works

MetaMask says it shows popular tokens automatically, using lists gathered from community token lists, and that it keeps no list of accepted or valid tokens. If yours is missing, you can refresh the list or choose Add custom token and paste the token's contract address. A token exists on a specific network, so the wallet has to be on the network where the token's contract was deployed. MetaMask warns that if a transaction with an unfamiliar token fails and the block explorer shows a message directing you to a website, that site is likely phishing.
