In 2023 Malaysia's Securities Commission put Banxa on its investor alert list for operating a digital asset exchange without registration. In 2022 securities regulators in British Columbia and Ontario halted trading in Banxa Holdings' shares over late financial filings, and lifted the order in 2023 once the filings were made.

What Banxa is

Banxa is a financial technology platform that provides crypto-fiat on-ramp and off-ramp infrastructure for other businesses to integrate into their own products. It offers APIs and SDKs for web, iOS, Android, and React Native that let partner platforms accept and process fiat or crypto payments, along with built-in KYC/AML compliance tooling and access to liquidity for currency conversion.

The platform is modular, allowing businesses to customize which features they use, including wallet-related functionality for end users. Banxa states it is not an FDIC-insured bank; in the USA, banking services are provided through a third-party bank, and in the EU, a related entity is authorized as a crypto-asset service provider under MiCA regulation.
