What Acurast is

Acurast is a decentralized compute network that runs applications on smartphones rather than data centers or servers. It describes itself as verifiable, scalable, and confidential infrastructure for developers who need secure execution without relying on conventional cloud hardware.

The network works by pooling smartphone hardware into a distributed compute layer, with more than 250,000 compute units onboarded worldwide according to the project. This capacity is used for tasks such as REST APIs, webhooks, LLM inference, and confidential data processing — workloads the project characterizes as mission-critical and security-sensitive. The architecture is built around two priorities: keeping execution decentralized across many independent devices, and preserving data privacy while tasks run.

What this does not establish is independent verification of the device count, the actual utilization of that compute capacity, or performance comparisons against data-center alternatives — these are the project's own claims. The ACU token is deployed across Base, BNB Chain, Ethereum, and Peaq, and is catalogued under classifications including AI, DePIN, and several chain-ecosystem tags; none of that implies the token carries revenue rights, governance power, or a claim on network fees, since the source describes infrastructure and usage, not tokenomics. Being listed across four chains also says nothing about where liquidity or actual activity is concentrated. No figure here should be read as a measure of adoption momentum or future value — it reflects what has been recorded, not what will hold.

On Ethereum, Base and BNB Chain, GoPlus's analysis of each contract is read weekly: whether it has a function to block addresses or pause transfers, and whether an owner holds it. That is GoPlus's reading, not ours. Where a token exists on several chains, one copy's settings say nothing about the original coin.

Always verify a contract address against the project's own site before sending anything. Addresses are shown as published by CoinGecko, not as an endorsement — and identical-looking tokens on other chains are the most common way people lose money here.

The exit-friction index

Once a month we publish what a $100,000 exit really costs across every token we can measure. Leave an address and this month’s figure arrives straight away, and we will write again when the next index publishes. Nothing else, and never to anyone else.
