What it actually costs to sell WIF
Selling $100,000 of WIF into each exchange’s resting bids, measured against the mid price:
| Exchange | Lost | Got back | Measured |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kraken WIF/USD | 0.92% | $99,085 | 2026-11-04 |
| Coinbase WIF/USD | 2.69% | $97,311 | 2026-11-04 |
Exchange figures need an account there (and KYC, a permitted country, the tokens already deposited), are before trading fees, and are never averaged with the on-chain figure. Binance is not included: it refuses requests from the region our servers are in. How this is measured →
Watch this number instead of remembering it. A free account keeps WIF on a list, records where it stood the day you added it, and emails you if selling it on these exchanges gets materially harder — one message, not a series. The measurement itself stays public; the account is for being told when it moves without you looking.
What dogwifhat is
dogwifhat (WIF) is a Solana-based memecoin built around an image of a Shiba Inu dog wearing a pink knitted hat. It launched anonymously in late 2023 and operates with no venture capital backing and no formal tokenomics beyond its initial distribution. The project describes its value proposition as a "Pure Meme Identity" — it has deliberately avoided adding utility, DeFi features, or gaming elements, choosing instead to stay fixed on its meme origins.
There is no DAO or formal governance; the project runs on social consensus among the community and influential voices, notably the crypto figure Ansem, who was central to its early viral spread. The "hat stays on" ethos keeps the project from expanding into a broader ecosystem. One notable community effort, the "Sphere Wif Hat" campaign, raised close to $700,000 in USDC in March 2024 to advertise the mascot on the Las Vegas Sphere; after a year of delays, organizers abandoned the plan on March 31, 2025, and began refunding donors. The token trades with deep liquidity on Solana DEXs such as Jupiter and Raydium, bridges to Unichain, and is listed on major centralized exchanges including Binance, Coinbase, Kraken, and Bybit.
WIF is not a utility token and does not claim to be one: there is no product, protocol, or revenue stream behind it, and none is planned. It has no presale allocation or VC lockup schedule to track, as supply was circulating from launch. Governance is informal and untraceable — there is no DAO structure or on-chain voting to audit, so "community decisions" cannot be independently verified against any charter. The Sphere campaign's collapse and refund process illustrate that community-funded initiatives here carry execution risk with no contractual recourse. It is classified under meme and Solana-ecosystem categories, deployed on Solana and Unichain, and its price behavior should be read as a function of attention and sentiment, not of any underlying cash flow or technical roadmap.
Where WIF lives
On Solana, a mint authority can create more of the token and a freeze authority can freeze it in a holder's account; both are read from the token itself, every day. Where a token exists on several chains, one copy's settings say nothing about the original coin.
Always verify a contract address against the project's own site before sending anything. Addresses are shown as published by CoinGecko, not as an endorsement — and identical-looking tokens on other chains are the most common way people lose money here.
