What Hyperliquid is

Hyperliquid is a decentralised exchange for perpetual futures, running on its own purpose-built blockchain. Its distinguishing technical choice is a fully on-chain central limit order book — the same order-book model centralised exchanges use, rather than the automated market makers most decentralised venues rely on, with every order and cancellation recorded on-chain.

That gives traders the execution model they are used to while keeping custody of their own funds, and it has attracted substantial derivatives volume.

Its distribution was equally unusual: no venture capital allocation, with a large share of supply distributed to actual users via airdrop. That earned genuine goodwill, though it also concentrated early supply among traders rather than long-term holders. The project is young, its volume is concentrated in perpetual futures rather than a broad ecosystem, and it competes with both centralised exchanges of vastly greater size and a crowded field of derivatives protocols. Its validator set is also small relative to established chains.
