What Kamino is
Kamino (KMNO) is a decentralized finance protocol built on Solana. It began as a tool for providing on-chain liquidity and earning yield, with one-click, auto-compounding concentrated liquidity strategies that became widely used liquidity-provider products on Solana. That early functionality forms the base of what the protocol has since become.
Kamino now combines three functions — lending, liquidity provision, and leverage — into a single product suite rather than offering them as separate applications. The lending and leverage components let users borrow and take on margin positions, while the liquidity strategies automate the work of managing concentrated-liquidity positions, including compounding returns, so users do not have to rebalance manually.
Kamino is a single-chain protocol: it runs on Solana only, so its availability and risk profile are tied to that network's uptime, fee conditions, and security history rather than to any cross-chain redundancy. It is categorized by CoinGecko under DeFi, lending/borrowing, and the Solana ecosystem — it is infrastructure for borrowing, lending, and liquidity management, not a payments token or a store of value in its own right. Combining lending, leverage, and liquidity provision in one product suite concentrates the operational and smart-contract risk of all three functions in a single protocol, rather than spreading it across separate, independently audited systems. Where KMNO lives
On Solana, a mint authority can create more of the token and a freeze authority can freeze it in a holder's account; both are read from the token itself, every day. Where a token exists on several chains, one copy's settings say nothing about the original coin.
