What Kyber Network Crystal is
Kyber Network is a liquidity hub that aggregates liquidity from multiple sources so decentralized applications, decentralized exchanges, and other users can access token swaps without going through a centralized exchange. Its stated goal is to let developers build DeFi products without having to independently solve for liquidity. Transactions are on-chain and verifiable through Ethereum block explorers. In April 2021, Kyber launched Kyber DMM, described as the first dynamic market maker protocol, designed to adjust to market conditions and support high amplification factors for pools with low-variability pairs such as stablecoins.
The Kyber Network Crystal (KNC) token is a utility and governance token. Holders can stake KNC in the KyberDAO to vote on proposals and, in return, earn staking rewards paid in ETH, sourced from trading fees generated on the network. KNC is the ERC-20 token that connects Kyber's various stakeholders — liquidity providers, developers, and governance participants — and the protocol's security relies on measures built into both its smart contracts and the underlying Ethereum blockchain, with audits performed by third-party firms including Chainsecurity.
KNC is not a claim on Kyber Network's revenue or equity; staking rewards depend on trading-fee volume and DAO parameters that can change through governance, not a fixed yield. Governance rights via KyberDAO do not guarantee proposals pass or that voted changes benefit any particular holder. The "first dynamic market maker" and "most used liquidity hub" claims originate from Kyber itself and are not independently verified here. Security audits reduce but do not eliminate smart-contract risk; an audit finding no vulnerabilities at one point in time is not a permanent guarantee. The protocol and token now span multiple chains beyond Ethereum — including Arbitrum, Avalanche, BNB Chain, Fantom, Linea, Optimism, Polygon, and zkSync — which adds bridge and cross-chain dependencies not described in the source material above.
Where KNC lives
On Ethereum, Base and BNB Chain, GoPlus's analysis of each contract is read weekly: whether it has a function to block addresses or pause transfers, and whether an owner holds it. That is GoPlus's reading, not ours. Where a token exists on several chains, one copy's settings say nothing about the original coin.
Always verify a contract address against the project's own site before sending anything. Addresses are shown as published by CoinGecko, not as an endorsement — and identical-looking tokens on other chains are the most common way people lose money here.
