What BOLD is
BOLD is a USD-pegged stablecoin issued by the Liquity Protocol, redeemable in full against the system that creates it. It is used to pay out loans within the Liquity ecosystem, where borrowers set their own interest rates and draw BOLD against ETH, wstETH, or rETH as collateral.
Loans must maintain a minimum collateral ratio of 110%. This threshold is enforced not by a central liquidator alone but through two backstops: a Stability Pool holding BOLD that absorbs undercollateralized positions, and, failing that, other borrowers in the system who act as guarantors of last resort. The peg and the loan mechanics are therefore tied together — BOLD's stability depends on the health of the collateral pool and the willingness of the Stability Pool to absorb losses, rather than on a reserve of off-chain dollars.
BOLD is not a fiat-backed stablecoin: there is no bank account or custodian holding dollars against it, and its "full redemption" claim rests on crypto collateral (ETH and liquid-staking derivatives) rather than cash or treasuries. It is not immune to the volatility of that collateral — a sharp enough drop in ETH-related assets stresses the 110% ratio and the Stability Pool simultaneously. It is not a product with a fixed interest rate; borrowers choose their own rates, which means borrowing costs are a market variable, not a protocol guarantee. It is deployed across Ethereum, Optimism, and Base, which means its behavior and liquidity can differ by chain. And as with any crypto-collateralized design, the guarantor-of-last-resort mechanism shifts risk onto other borrowers in stressed conditions rather than eliminating it.
Where BOLD lives
On Ethereum, Base and BNB Chain, GoPlus's analysis of each contract is read weekly: whether it has a function to block addresses or pause transfers, and whether an owner holds it. That is GoPlus's reading, not ours. Where a token exists on several chains, one copy's settings say nothing about the original coin.
Always verify a contract address against the project's own site before sending anything. Addresses are shown as published by CoinGecko, not as an endorsement — and identical-looking tokens on other chains are the most common way people lose money here.
