Measured

Read from our own records when this page was made. It describes what we know, and is not a view on whether to hold METIS. How each part is worked out

What changed

Week to 22 October

Nothing we measure moved much this week: trading volume and price are all within their usual range.

From our own measurements only, each against the month before. We do not say why a price moves. How this is worked out · Every coin this week

What it actually costs to sell METIS

Selling $100,000 of METIS into each exchange’s resting bids, measured against the mid price:

ExchangeLostGot backMeasured
Coinbase METIS/USD 28.5% $71,499 2026-10-21
Kraken METIS/USD 80.9% $19,107 2026-10-21

Exchange figures need an account there (and KYC, a permitted country, the tokens already deposited), are before trading fees, and are never averaged with the on-chain figure. Binance is not included: it refuses requests from the region our servers are in. How this is measured →

Watch this number instead of remembering it. A free account keeps METIS on a list, records where it stood the day you added it, and emails you if selling it on these exchanges gets materially harder — one message, not a series. The measurement itself stays public; the account is for being told when it moves without you looking.

What Metis is

Metis describes itself as a multi-network ecosystem built on what it calls the MetisSDK, rather than a single Layer 2 chain. It consists of two interoperating networks: Andromeda, a general-purpose rollup, and Hyperion, a newer network aimed at AI-oriented workloads. The source material does not name a founding team or a launch date for either network.

Andromeda is an optimistic rollup that uses a decentralized sequencer network and fraud-proof mechanisms, settling for security on Ethereum. It is positioned as the more conservative, battle-tested side of the ecosystem, with planned upgrades to on-chain data availability and fraud-proof handling, and a roadmap toward further decentralization stages. Hyperion, by contrast, is built for parallel transaction execution and on-chain AI inference: it uses a custom virtual machine (MetisVM), a storage layer called MetisDB, and the Alith AI framework to run model inference alongside transactions, while still committing state changes to Ethereum and using METIS as its gas token.

What this is not: it is not a single, unified chain — it is two separate networks under one brand, at different points of maturity. Hyperion was described at the time of writing as being introduced via testnet, which means its AI-execution claims have not been demonstrated in a production environment with real economic activity. The on-chain LLM inference, parallel execution engine, and gas-fee reductions are design goals stated by the project, not independently verified performance figures. CoinGecko classifies METIS under several overlapping categories — Layer 2, Rollup, Ethereum Ecosystem, and others — reflecting that it spans infrastructure roles rather than a single defined one. It is deployed on Ethereum and Metis Andromeda; nothing here indicates revenue-sharing, staking yield, or fee capture by the token itself.

On Ethereum, Base and BNB Chain, GoPlus's analysis of each contract is read weekly: whether it has a function to block addresses or pause transfers, and whether an owner holds it. That is GoPlus's reading, not ours. Where a token exists on several chains, one copy's settings say nothing about the original coin.

Always verify a contract address against the project's own site before sending anything. Addresses are shown as published by CoinGecko, not as an endorsement — and identical-looking tokens on other chains are the most common way people lose money here.

The exit-friction index

Once a month we publish what a $100,000 exit really costs across every token we can measure. Leave an address and this month’s figure arrives straight away, and we will write again when the next index publishes. Nothing else, and never to anyone else.
