What SingularityNET is
SingularityNET is a decentralized marketplace for artificial intelligence services. The project describes a gap between AI researchers and academics who build tools and the businesses that want to use them, and positions itself as a connective layer between the two. The team behind it is led by Dr. Ben Goertzel, CEO and Chief Scientist, who also chairs the OpenCog Foundation and the Artificial General Intelligence Society. Dr. David Hanson of Hanson Robotics serves as Robotics Lead; Hanson Robotics is named as a partner company. The source describes an alpha platform release with a public beta planned for mid-2018.
The mechanism is a network of AI "Agents" that can request and pay for each other's services. In the example given, a user asks the humanoid robot Sophia to summarize a video; Sophia pays one Agent to coordinate, which in turn pays separate Agents specialized in video transcription and text summarization. Each Agent updates its own model with what it learns from these exchanges, so the stated aim is that the network's collective capability compounds faster than any single Agent's would alone. Tokenizing this exchange is meant to create a marketplace with price discovery for AI services that, per the source, did not previously exist.
What's measurable here is more modest than the design document. AGIX was first recorded in December 2017, and it is tracked across Ethereum, Cardano, and Sora, with classifications spanning general "AI," "AI Agents," and ecosystem-specific tags rather than one fixed category — a sign the asset has been re-bucketed over time rather than occupying a single stable niche. The source is a project description of intended architecture and team composition, not a record of the marketplace's operating scale, transaction volume, or how many Agents are actually transacting today. Nothing here indicates how much AI commerce, if any, currently moves through the network, and the alpha-to-beta timeline cited is from the project's own early roadmap, not a report of what shipped.
Where AGIX lives
On Ethereum, Base and BNB Chain, GoPlus's analysis of each contract is read weekly: whether it has a function to block addresses or pause transfers, and whether an owner holds it. That is GoPlus's reading, not ours. Where a token exists on several chains, one copy's settings say nothing about the original coin.
Always verify a contract address against the project's own site before sending anything. Addresses are shown as published by CoinGecko, not as an endorsement — and identical-looking tokens on other chains are the most common way people lose money here.
