▼11.20%What Sui is
Sui is a proof-of-stake blockchain launched in 2023 by Mysten Labs, founded by engineers who previously worked on Meta's abandoned Diem project. It uses Move, a programming language originally designed there specifically to make asset-handling code harder to get wrong.
Its design treats everything as objects rather than account balances. Transactions that touch unrelated objects — most simple transfers — can skip full consensus and execute in parallel, which is why Sui is fast and cheap under load.
The caveats are the ones that apply to any young chain, and they should not be skipped. Its track record is short, measured in a couple of years rather than a decade. A significant share of supply was allocated to early investors and the team, with unlocks releasing over time, which is a persistent source of sell pressure independent of how the technology performs. And Move's safety advantages come with a smaller developer pool than Ethereum's Solidity ecosystem.
Where SUI lives
Always verify a contract address against the project's own site before sending anything. Addresses are shown as published by the data source, not as an endorsement — and identical-looking tokens on other chains are the most common way people lose money here.
