What Tokenised GBP is

TGBP is a stablecoin pegged 1:1 to the British Pound Sterling, issued by a firm registered with the UK's Financial Conduct Authority. It is described as the first such GBP-pegged token issued by an FCA-registered entity.

The peg is maintained through full collateralisation: reserves are held in fiat and short-term zero coupon bonds issued by HM Treasury. This backing is intended to support stability, redeemability, and regulatory compliance. Beyond use as a payment instrument, TGBP is positioned to enable on-chain sterling transactions, programmable payments, and exposure to GBP-linked real-world assets such as tokenised bonds.

TGBP is a stablecoin, not a yield-bearing instrument or an investment product in itself — any return comes from the underlying collateral, not the token held by a user. Regulatory registration with the FCA is a statement about the issuer's status, not a guarantee of the peg's performance; a fiat and bond-backed reserve still depends on the issuer's solvency, custody arrangements, and redemption process, none of which are detailed here. The token is deployed across eight networks, including Ethereum, Solana, BNB Chain, Avalanche, Polygon, Arbitrum, Base and Gnosis Chain, which spreads it across differing security and bridging assumptions on each. No information is given here on audit history, reserve attestations, redemption limits, or the entity's track record, and none should be assumed.

On Solana, a mint authority can create more of the token and a freeze authority can freeze it in a holder's account; both are read from the token itself, every day. On Ethereum, Base and BNB Chain, GoPlus's analysis of each contract is read weekly: whether it has a function to block addresses or pause transfers, and whether an owner holds it. That is GoPlus's reading, not ours. Where a token exists on several chains, one copy's settings say nothing about the original coin.

Always verify a contract address against the project's own site before sending anything. Addresses are shown as published by CoinGecko, not as an endorsement — and identical-looking tokens on other chains are the most common way people lose money here.

The exit-friction index

Once a month we publish what a $100,000 exit really costs across every token we can measure. Leave an address and this month’s figure arrives straight away, and we will write again when the next index publishes. Nothing else, and never to anyone else.
