How do you add a network to MetaMask?
In MetaMask you open the network menu, choose to add a custom network, and enter its details: name, RPC URL, chain ID and currency symbol. Many popular networks can be added from a list inside the wallet instead of typing details.
What it means for you
A network's details decide which server your wallet trusts for balances and transactions. Copy them from the network's own documentation, not from a random site or message, since a wrong or malicious RPC can show false data.
How it works
MetaMask's guide: in the extension, open the menu, select Networks, then Add a custom network, enter the network's details and Save; on mobile, open the networks drop-down, switch to the Custom tab and add one. MetaMask notes that it does not maintain the network information on Chainlist and that you need to make sure details are accurate before adding them. It also says a custom RPC for Ethereum, Linea, Base, Arbitrum or BNB Smart Chain turns off its Smart Transactions features such as MEV protection.
