Athena Bitcoin
Runs Bitcoin ATMs (more than 3,000, by its own count) in the US and Latin America, where cash buys or sells bitcoin. In 2025 the District of Columbia's Attorney General sued it, alleging undisclosed fees of up to 26% and that 93% of deposits at its D.C. machines in their first five months came from scams; the case is pending. In July 2026 California's financial regulator ordered it to stop operating kiosks in the state until licensed, alleging over-limit transactions and fees above the state's cap, and gave notice that it intends to seek penalties.
